The landlord of a Southport town centre property that was closed by police following reports of drug activity has been ordered to pay more than £36,000 after failing to obey with housing regulations.

The Talbot Street flats were raided in July last year and placed under a closure order following reports of drug activity and antisocial behaviour. The flats are owned by Simply Property UK LLP.

Landlord Tony Croft failed to attend a hearing at Sefton Magistrates Court on Tuesday 17 January 2017.

This hearing found Croft guilty of seven breaches of housing regulations, including failing to provide fire-fighting equipment and fire detection systems and failing to protect occupants from injury and failure to maintain the internal structure of the property.

Officers also found significant obstruction to communal areas, as well as drugs paraphenalia.
