Southport score their first goal of the season but can not avoid another defeat

Result: Southport 1-2 Gateshead

Gateshead continued their excellent start to the season as Josh Gillies’ penalty secured victory at Southport.

Ryan Bowman scored his fifth goal in four games for the visitors when he headed home from a free-kick.

After Bowman hit the crossbar, Louis Almond’s long range strike levelled the game for the Sandgrounders.

Gillies made it three wins from four to start the campaign for the Heed, as he converted from the spot after Bowman was tripped in the area.
