Sam Cooper, who attends Birkdale High School has been selected, along with a handful of other school pupils from around the country to represent ‘Team ‘GBR’ in the forthcoming Irish Topper National Championships in County Antrim in July.  Shortly after that Sam and his fellow team members jet off to Lake Garda to compete in the World Championships.

Sam has been competing in topper racing, which is a form of sailing since the age of 9.  He pursues this hobby at West Lancs sailing and yacht club, based on the Marine lake and spends on average 7 hours a week practicing and competing.  He was selected to represent the country through performing to a very high standard in various qualifying events throughout the year.

Proud Headteacher Mr Bourgade said, “We are very privileged to have such a nice young man flying the flag for our school, his family and our nation at these tournaments and on behalf of the school community we wish Sam and all his teammates from across the country every success”.
