Sefton Council gave a Special Recognition Award to Bootle and District Primary School Football Association on reaching its 100th year in 2013. Councillors also granted the same award to Southport Rugby Union Club which is currently celebrating its 140th anniversary. The official council motion, proposed by Council Leader, Cllr Peter Dowd, congratulated each club on their many achievements, giving special praise to the many volunteers involved Sefton also recorded its appreciation for the positive impact each club has had on the health and wellbeing of residents. Cllr Dowd said: “These two great organisations have made a massive contribution to the lives of thousands of people over many generations. “Like most sporting associations, their lifeline is the dedication of countless volunteers and I’m delighted that we can record our appreciation for the contribution they have made.” Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Maureen Fearn, said: “Both associations have made a huge contribution to grass roots sport at both ends of Sefton. “In an age where we are increasingly aware of the benefits of regular exercise, we should congratulate them on the positive impact they have had on people’s health.” Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
