Southport residents urged to spread some festive cheer this Christmas by dropping in on those felling lonely or isolated

Southport Community Ambulance Station offers festive meal for elderly local residents

As the festive period approaches, people are being reminded to drop in on relatives, friends and neighbours to help them feel less lonely and isolated.

There are also a number of events taking place in local communities on a similar theme this Christmas.

Over recent weeks, Sefton Council, in partnership with Sefton CVS, has been running the Sefton Cares initiative.

The campaign, which is supported by a range of information about local services and other opportunities, asks people to ‘have a brew’ with people who may be isolated within our communities.

In addition to this, many organisations are offering events to help residents who may feel isolated and alone on Christmas Day.

  • In Southport, the Community Ambulance Station is offering a festive meal for elderly Southport residents who would be on their own at Christmas, call Sara on 07724 643112 for more information and to book your place.

Cllr Paul Cummins, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Older People and Health, said: “At this time of year everyone is busy trying to find the right gift when they could also spend some time with family, friends or volunteer. Spending just a few minutes with someone you know can help them feel less isolated and more connected with the community. You may be the only friendly face they see from one day to the next.

“There is a lot going on in local communities to reduce social isolation and to encourage people to be active healthy and well.”

The Sefton Directory is full of useful information on services and opportunities to keep people of all ages active, healthy and well. It provides details of clubs and activities for people to take part in within their local community. Visit
