Green Garden Waste Collections

By Joel Rodwell

Letters and new calendars are being delivered to properties across Sefton highlighting changes to the green garden waste collection service.

From the beginning of March, the green waste wheelie bin collection will change to a 3 weekly service with new Monday collections. The new days and dates will be outlined in the calendars.

There will be no green waste collections during the rest of January or February.

The change will allow Sefton Council to continue to provide a free of charge green waste collection service. Ceasing Saturday collections will help contribute towards the significant budget savings that have to be found.

All other waste and recycling services will continue unchanged.

Cllr Trish Hardy, Cabinet Member Environmental and Communities, said: “Once again the council is faced with further cuts in Government funding which means having to reduce spending by an extra £55 million over the next two years.

“However, we are determined to continue running this well used, free of charge service and from March, it will operate every three weeks.

“Sefton has one of the best recycling rates in Merseyside and we hope all residents will continue to use the service and recycle as much waste as possible.

“If residents wish to have an additional green bin to help them to dispose of their green waste on the new three weekly cycle one will be provided for them by simply contacting us.”

Residents are kindly asked to make sure they put all their waste and recycling bins and/or bags out by 6.30am on their collection day.
