Southport resident Michael Griffiths receives British Empire Medal in the New Year honours list December 31st, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments MICHAEL GRIFFITHS, aged 57, from Southport receives British Empire Medal in the New Year honours list for voluntary services to the British Polio Fellowship in the North West He has been heavily involved with the British Polio Fellowship for the last 12 years. This charity helps, supports and empowers 120,000 people in the UK living with the effects of Polio and Post Polio Syndrome. He has chaired the North West Region branch of the fellowship for the last four years, chairing regular meetings in his local area of Southport, as well as meetings at regional level which can be anywhere in the North West. He has been particularly proactive in encouraging and welcoming an influx of younger members and is invariably the first to welcome them into the fellowship. He is unstinting in offering his personal help, encouragement and advice and in sharing his personal experience whenever and wherever needed. His main focus of attention in the last year has been concerning the implementation of the Personal Independence Payment and how this will affect polio sufferers in the future. He researched the changes widely and discussed the impact with medical professionals and passed that information to his Fellowship. His caring attitude and tireless work for this organisation is inspirational and humbling. Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
