Southport Past (OTS News) The Round House Waterloo Road Southport September 6th, 2013 admin Latest Past Shares Comments Southport Past (OTS News) The Round House Waterloo Road Southport Southport’s round house was put on the market by its owner Bob Holmes in 2005. This unique house occupies a prime position on Waterloo Road, Birkdale being well placed for both Hillside and Birkdale Villages and numerous championship standard golf links. Local Estate Agents Brian Martins sold the property in 2006 for around £1M. Bob bought the house in 1983 and decided to sell Southport’s most famous landmark when his daughter grew up and fled the nest. A little history The photograph below was taken in 1958. Several years later, in 1963, when local resident Barbara Brown was looking at houses in the area, this property was up for sale for £5,000. That was nearly double the price of the surrounding three-bed room semis. As you can see, it stands alone on the sand hill, the nearest house being some distance away, and looks quite sparse compared to the beautifully decorated house with landscaped gardens of today.
