Sefton’s Parks To Be Lit Up For Fun

Even more young people will have the chance to take part in a raft of free activities later this month as Sefton Council expands its yearly ‘Sporting Lights’ event.

The event has proved so successful that it will now be taking place in Krater Skate Park, Southport*; Killen Green Park, Netherton and North Park, Bootle along with its usual home of Coronation Park, Crosby.

Taking place from 6-8pm on Sunday, October 30, Sporting Lights will give youngster the opportunity to take part in a whole of host of fun activities, such as face painting, skate park coaching, zorbing, football, pedalos and many more. Refreshments will also be available with local businesses, including Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Dominoes and Subway providing tasty treats FREE of charge.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member Children, Schools, Families and Leisure, said: “We have been running this for a number of years now and I am delighted that we have been able to expand Sporting Lights out to other parks in the area.

“It promises to be a dazzling evening of fun and free activities in some of the borough’s finest green spaces and thanks must go in advance to all our partner agencies who have worked so hard to help us bring this great event together.”

The event is organised by Sefton Council as part of the Halloween and Bonfire Night Plan in partnership with The Friends of Alexandra and Coronation Parks, Eden Network, L30’s Million Project, L30 Community Centre, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Y-Kidz, Turn It Around, North Park Steering Group, Veolia,  Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, British Orienteering and other community volunteers and sports coaches.

Anyone attending is asked to bring a torch along on the evening as not all areas of the park will be floodlit and they can also be used for the orienteering sessions.

No equipment will be provided at Krater Skate Park session and all attendees are asked to bring along their own.

All activities and refreshments will be on a first come first served basis. A full list of activities is available sefton.gov.uk/events
