Southport Muni Golf Helps Macmillan June 14th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Southport Muni Golf Helps Macmillan Southport Municipal Golf Links hosted a charity day in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support raising more than £270. For the fourth year running, the Windmill pub on Seabank Road used the popular links course for a charity golf event. Southport Golf Links is run by Sefton Council and last year celebrated its centenary year after officially opening on September 11, 1912. The course proudly calls itself England’s oldest Municipal links. Steve Leonard, landlord at the Windmill Pub, organised the event. He said: “This year we have raised in excess of £270 for a such a worthy cause and I would personally like to thank everyone who took part in the day and everyone who sponsored the golfers. “It was a great day of golf and compliments must go to Sefton Council and the greenkeepers at the course for having it in such a superb condition for us all to enjoy. “Such is the popularity of the event, from next year the tournament will be called the Windmill Macmillan Masters.” Declan Kearney, from Sefton Council’s Parks Team, added: “Southport Golf Links is a great venue to host such charity days and we were delighted to welcome this particular tournament. “All the competitors enjoyed the excellent facilities at the course and we look forward to welcoming the tournament again next year.” Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
