Southport Lib Dems make friends

Southport Liberal  Democrats widened the circle of Dementia friends when they undertook training to learn about what it’s like to live with the condition. The session was delivered by Dementia Champion, Councillor Pat Keith, who is spearheading the campaign to make Southport Dementia Friendly.

“ I think it’s very important to raise awareness of the condition and to break down the stigma attached to it,”  said  Pat.

“The message we want to send out to anyone worried about their memory is to contact   their GP and have it checked.  If the condition is diagnosed early then the correct treatment can be given and carers can access support and services.

Councillor Sue McGuire, leader of the Lib Dems said:  “The training was illuminating and has given us all a valuable insight into dementia.  As a group we now look forward to turning our understanding into actions and to wearing our Dementia Friends badges with pride.”
