Southport KGV Law and Citizenship students love London! February 20th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments On a beautiful St. Valentine’s Day in London, thirty KGV students from Law and Citizenship visited the Supreme Court and the Houses of Parliament. The students started with a guided tour of the Supreme Court and were even lucky enough to sit in on a current case. During the tour, students were taken into Courtroom 1 where they were given a talk about the type of cases that are heard in the Supreme Court. This ranged from the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and his case against Swedish courts in relation to his arrest warrant, to Lucas Productions (creators of the Star Wars films) vs. Ainsley over the copyrights of a Storm trooper helmet! Students were then able to enter the committee room of the Privy Council and sit in the seats of the Lords of the Supreme Court. After a successful morning in the Supreme Court, we visited the Houses of Parliament, meeting up with several researchers for the Liberal Democrats, who took us on a tour of Parliament and answered our questions about current political issues. This included visiting Westminster Hall and the House of Lords and House of Commons. Students asked some inquisitive questions about current affairs such as the rise in tuition fees and the debate around same sex marriage. Subject Area Leader, Liz Voges said, “What an absolute delight today has been. You have made us proud in so many ways and it is wonderful to know that you (our students) are our future.” Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
