Southport hospital to suffer death by a thousand cuts?

Southport Local health watchdog Councillor Tony Dawson is warning that our local hospital may be suffering death by a thousand cuts. Already suffering from major overspend problems, the Southport &Ormskirk Hospital Trust has just had the community nursing contract taken away from it in the Southport & Formby area, having already lost the contract for the West Lancashire Area’s District Nurses.

Councillor Dawson, who is the local Health spokesperson and who leads for the Lib Dems on the Council’s Health Scrutiny Committee says:

“This will mean not only less-integrated care and the need for more bureaucracy, but also more money being spent on management and less on frontline care. It will also mean the overhead burden of the Southport Hospital Trust will be spread across fewer services leading to further financial problems.”

“The sooner this ridiculous purchaser-provider split in the NHS is done away with and we revert to having a proper National Health Service again, the better.”
