The Alcohol Recovery Centre will allow boozers to sleep off their ale and shower up before heading back home. The new system will take pressure off the busy hospital over the Christmas period. Southport Hospital has already reported http://www.otsnews.co.uk/southport-hospital-ae-warning-as-demand-for-care-at-unprecedented-level/ A busier than normal period with emergency department reporting “unprecedented” demand. The ‘drunk’ tank will allow ambulance staff and police to take the intoxicated to a place of safety without having to take them to already over stretched A&Es. Nurses will be on hand to ensure visitors are in the most appropriate place. This recovery centre is a first for Southport but if successful NHS officials say it could return.
