Generous clubs at Southport Golf Links have shown they are all heart this week by raising money for a vital life-saving piece of equipment.

The clubs, all affiliated to the Southport Golf Links based on Park Road West, have helped raise funds to buy a defibrillator for the golf course.

The defibrillator will be installed at the golf shop and be available for use whenever the course is open.

Declan Kearney, Senior Parks Officer at Sefton Council, said: “An increasing number of sports and leisure facilities are seeing the importance of installing defibrillators.

“They can make the difference in saving the life of someone who has suffered a heart attack and help giving victims a fighting chance of survival.

“Installing a defibrillator is a positive move to supporting golfers and improving welfare facilities at the course.”

Money was raised through Park Golf Club with added funds from the Alt Golf Club, Southport Golf Club and Southport Ladies Golf Club.

John Murray, the immediate past captain of Park Golf Club, said: “Our club see installing a defibrillator as a positive move to supporting golfers.

“We are keen to recruit new members/users and improving facilities is something we and Sefton Council see as a priority.”

Membership for all clubs is open with some great deals on offer and for more info contact 01704 535286.
