Our Branch AGM is due at 8.30 pm on 27th February, less than 2 weeks away.  It is assumed that all present Committee Officers are willing to stand again, unless advised otherwise.  This does not mean that these are protected posts, and most officers would be willing to stand down to let new blood take over, as many have served in the branch for many years.

I have served in an active post for 30 years next year in 2014, and I think by then that enough will be enough! (If not before).  This means that we are looking for new people to take over, and if you’re not happy about taking a lead post we can offer assistant posts, for anyone willing to just help others, with a view to taking over eventually.

Posts available are Branch Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Website Manager, Pubs Officer, Social Secretary, Branch Contact, Press Contact and Public Relations Officer.  So please let me know if you are interested, either before the AGM, or by attending it on 27th February.

We really do need your help, there are more than 500 branch members out there, and we’d love to see some of you get involved, a healthy branch needs changes from time to time, as new ideas are always welcome.

One other thing we should like to achieve, outside of Committee work, is to build up a database of all the pubs in our Sefton and West Lancashire areas.  The approximate area of this is west of a line bounded by the River Douglas from Hesketh Bank, River Tawd, north of M58 and River Alt to Hightown.  Pam Kelly is our contact for this and she’d like to hear from you about our pubs data – please contact her on [email protected] or  07515 824539 for more information.  We are also looking into pubs that do a discount scheme for CAMRA members eg 50p off, or whatever, there are some in other areas, but not many apart from Wetherspoons in ours (that we know of) – please let Pam know about any of these.

Our Pubs of the Year (POTY) for 2013 voted last Wednesday are the Sefton based Freshfield Hotel, Formby and in Lancashire the Hop Vine Burscough.  Clubs (COTY) are the Formby Conservative Club and the Farmers’ Arms, Ormskirk.  For these to be eligible we shall need volunteers to check out the pubs and clubs voted by other Merseyside and Cheshire Branches.  We also finalised our pub and club entries for the 2014 CAMRA Good Beer Guide – details of these will be available soon.

Our 14th Sandgrounder Beer Festival is scheduled to take place on 17-19th October at the St Johns Ambulance Hall, and we are running a Jazz Festival BeerEx at the new Atkinson Hall on 10-12th May, for which at the latter we shall be needing volunteers for setup and serving beer quite soon – let me know, please.

Finally, we are still struggling a little with progress of Ale & Hearty due to illness, despite the efforts of our advertising and distribution helpers.  If anyone has ideas to help here, please also let me know about that.

Please help with your support.
