Southport Lib Dem Councillor Tony Dawson is warning West Birkdale residents of the need to battle against continued garden-grabbing’ by developers.
Councillor Dawson will be speaking at Wednesday’s planning committee against a proposal to plonk a detached house in the back garden of a Trafalgar Road property adjoining the S&B Sports Club.
He says:
“It is only a few months since we saw garden-grabbing in action in Lancaster Road to disgracefully put a staff car park right outside a resident’s bedroom window. This latest example of over-development completely takes away the garden of a substantial property for one reason and one reason alone: money.”
“Similar proposals have been refused by the planning committee in the past and I cannot see any logic in this proposal being supported. But we have to recognise that Sefton Council’s planning committee is now dominated by Labour Councillors from Bootle who appear to have no particular interest in what Birkdale or Southport look like.”
“Large part of Trafalgar Road are still unspoiled and retain a strong character.. It would be a great shame if it were to be allowed to go the same way as some other streets in the town.”
