Southport College Open Evening Entertains and Informs Visitors

Over 900 visitors made the trip to the Mornington Road college on Monday 7 October and were treated to a non-stop showcase of entertainment and information at Southport College’s first Open Evening of the year.

Visitors were greeted by a samba band and enjoyed performances from a live DJ, Performing Arts students and a local street-dance group. The outstanding facilities at the College, including the well-established centre of excellence for Media, Theatre and the Arts, were available to tour.

Prospective students were spoilt for choice when it came to course tasters with every course in the College offering the opportunity for visitors to participate. They were able to have a go at printmaking and Apple Mac workshops in Graphics and Art, participate in Performing Arts workshops, test their surveying and architectural skills in Construction, investigate a crime scene in Forensic Science and join in the new product launch from Decléor in the College’s beauty salon, Concept.

College Principal John Clarke said “The event was a fantastic success and it was pleasing to see so many potential students participating in the course tasters to help make their post-GCSE decisions. A large number of the prospective students already had university and careers in mind and our Advanced Level vocational courses are a perfect choice for them. It was also good to talk to the many parents who attended; they were very impressed by what Southport College has to offer both in terms of resources and teaching. I firmly believe our facilities are now amongst the best in the North West across all subjects and we are planning further significant investment in them over the coming year.”

The College is hosting another Open Evening on Monday 11 November 2013 between 4.00pm and 7.30pm. For more information contact the School Liaison team on 01704 392741 or [email protected]
