The Dragon Bench was commissioned by Churchtown Primary School and Botanic Action Group with funding from Sefton Express and The Charles and Edna Broadhurst Charitable Trust with support and advice from Martin Sarbutts of Sefton Parks, and Ken Bridge of Botanic Action Group and North Meols Civic Society in 2008.

The carving has part of a poem carved on it about friendship written by pupils from Class 2R with local poet Alison Chisholm.

The Sculpture Trail, Poetry Trail, Story Trail and an Exhibition of work in the Botanic Museum from the Churchtown Primary Arts Festival opened to the public on Saturday 8th November 2008.

The fantastic bench was carved out of a tree trunk exactly five years ago by Simon O’Rourke (below) of Wrexham, North Wales.
