Southport Bird Life

4th July 2016

Many things that we throw away provide great food for our wonderful UK birds!

Check the RSPB site for feeding tips: https://www.rspb.org.uk/makeahomeforwildlife/advice/helpingbirds/feeding/whatfood/scraps.aspx

Goldfinches are always welcome in the garden.

Young goldie – waiting for mum.

Woodpeckers are fond of peanuts

Species like the blackbird, robin and thrush also love to watch gardeners work when soil is being turned over, as this provides an opportunity to grab a few worms to feed the chicks.

The starlings are never far away when food is about.

Woodie is always on the hunt for food as well.

Gardens are just not gardens without a few sparrows.

The wonder of nature is right on our doorstep.

However, birds also need lawns to gather food from but warnings have been issued by expert environmentalists. The mounting fashion to lay fake lawns instead of real grass causes loss of habitat for wildlife and creates waste that is not biodegradable.
