Southport Air Show Prepares To Take Off July 30th, 2014 jmr jmr Latest News Latest Whats On Shares Comments An outstanding array of aircraft, including the world famous Red Arrows, have been confirmed to appear at this year’s Southport Air Show. Now in its 23rd year, the Southport Air Show is two days of packed entertainment for the entire family and takes place on the 20th & 21st September on the Southport Seafront. The majority of the flying programme has just been announced and includes both spectacular military and civilian aircraft. Along with the Red Arrows, set to appear from the RAF is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Typhoon, Tucano and Tutor. The Navy will bring their Black Cats Lynx, Merlin HM2 and their Sea King Search and Rescue Demo while the Army Air Corps will showcase a Lynx AH7. Civilian aircraft set to appear at the Southport Air Show includes the Hurricane – Hangar 11, The Blades, Huey, Sea Fury T20 – Royal Navy Historic Flight, Spitfire XIX – Rolls Royce and the Great War Team. As part of Sefton’s World War 1 commemorations, for 2014 there will be themed displays remembering the outbreak of the Great War with mock battles set up on the beach. A special ‘life in the trenches’ display will be on show with soldiers present in a bell-tented encampment with weapons, equipment and accessories from the 1914-1918 period. In between displays, visitors can test their ability on a climbing wall, inflatable assault course or experience the next best thing to flying a fast jet in one of the many flight simulators in the Air Show Village. Cllr Ian Maher, Cabinet Member Regeneration and Tourism, said: “The Southport Air Show is getting ever closer and it is great to announce part of this year’s amazing line up. “The annual event really is a great spectacle and yet again it is fabulous news the Red Arrows have been confirmed for what promises to be another great weekend in Southport. “Gates open at 9am on the day with light aircraft and microlights landing on the beach. The Air Show Village and all the attractions will be open from 9am, plus once you are on site and have your wristband you can come and go as you please to have a wonder around Southport. “It is always an extremely busy event and we do advise people to book as early as possible.” Tickets are only £7.32 (including all fees) if booked in advance with children under 5 free.
