South Wales Police appoint Chief Superintendent Nikki Holland from Merseyside Police to Assistant Chief Constable April 29th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments South Wales Police announces appointment of two new Assistant Chief Constables The Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner of South Wales Police have confirmed the appointment of two new Assistant Chief Constables to the force. New ACCs at South Wales Police. Chief Superintendent Nikki Holland from Merseyside Police and Chief Superintendent Jon Stratford from Avon and Somerset Police will complete the uniformed senior management team at the force when they start in their new roles. Their appointments follow a rigorous selection process and come at a time when a number of assistant chief constable roles are being advertised nationally. Chief Constable Peter Vaughan said he was pleased that both had chosen to move to South Wales: “I am very pleased to welcome both Nikki and Jon to South Wales Police. “They bring valuable skills and a positive approach to our force and both have an excellent understanding of how to deliver high quality community based policing. “They have been appointed following a testing and rigorous process during which they demonstrated their personal qualities with distinction. I look forward to them joining my team and working with me to keep South Wales safe.” Commissioner Alun Michael commented: “I am delighted that we have been able to secure the services of two experienced officers with track records of success in policing major cities. “Also, that they complete a very strong senior team in South Wales to serve the public and continue the good work that has been done in recent times.” Nikki Holland Chief Superintendent Nikki Holland joined Merseyside Police in 1988 and was initially posted to Lower Lane Police Station in North Liverpool. She later went on to work in other areas of Liverpool North, Knowsley and Liverpool South. Nikki has spent the majority of her service as a detective and was in Sefton as the Senior Investigating Officer in 2008. She has led numerous murder enquiries, firearms discharge investigations and the other major incidents. She also led the Force’s diversity programme in 2007. Following her promotion to uniform Superintendent in St. Helens in 2009, Nikki led the reduction of crime and disorder across every aspect of policing and was a key member of the Safeguarding Children Board and other partnership forums. She successfully introduced the process of targeting Organised Crime Groups. Nikki has her first degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology. Outside the organisation, Nikki enjoys keeping fit and spending time with her family. She lives with her husband and son. Jon Stratford Jon graduated from Leicester Polytechnic in 1986 where he was commissioned into the Royal Artillery. Leaving the Army in 1992, he joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary. Jon served in a variety of posts in Bristol and Bath before becoming a sector inspector at Frome. In 2000 Jon took charge of the force’s Operational Training Department where he gained significant firearms and public order experience. Jon is a qualified firearms and public order commander with extensive experience having managed police operations for large scale public events such as Glastonbury Festival, Bristol’s St Paul’s Carnival as well as major incidents like the 2010 murder of Joanna Yates, the two separate Bristol disorders in 2011, following the Tesco protests and the death of Mark Duggan, and the English Defence League March in the city last year (2013). In 2003 Jon moved back to rural Somerset East after being promoted to Superintendent. He set up and lead the force’s representative workforce project before he took charge of the Criminal Justice Department on promotion to Chief Superintendent in 2007. Between 2008 and 2013 this role was combined with that of Deputy District Commander of Bristol, one of the country’s eight core cities. Since July 2013 Jon has been the Area Commander in Bristol. Jon is a family man and his interests include surfing, cycling, anything that gets him outdoors with his three young sons. He is also the chair of governors of his local primary school.
