Sizzling Food And Drink Festival Food challenge

Thousands of cuisine and refreshment lovers are expected at the 8th Southport Food and Drink Festival.

For the second year running, the annual event will be based in Victoria Park, Southport, home of the Southport Flower Show, and runs from May 30-June 1.

Cooking connoisseurs, food fanatics and beverage buffs will be in their element with an array of stands and events taking place for the whole family.

Each day Victoria Park opens at 10am and features chef demonstrations in the Intoto Kitchen, street food traders, cocktails, local and regional beers, family activities in a children’s marquee and local and continental producers selling their fare. Doors close at 6pm.

This year visitors can also take part in a number of food challenges which include eating a two foot long hot dog and a spice inferno chilli dog.

Only a small number of people have completed the timed food challenges set by American Street Food Ltd. These cost to take part in and have an age restriction and disclaimer to sign for the spice inferno.

Sarah Carter, Sefton Council’s Food and Drink Festival organiser, said: “Please join us for three days celebrating everything associated with our love of food and drink.

“The festival is a wonderful platform for both residents and visitors to the town to see and taste a range of delicious home-grown produce and also witness some top chefs in action through the many demonstrations.

“Entry is free of charge so whether you just stay for an hour or the whole day, there will be plenty to do and enjoy in a fun filled festival atmosphere.”

The festival is sponsored by the Love Food Hate Waste campaign and for more information and to browse and download a festival brochure just log on to
