Set sail for Southport College this September

Courses for school leavers are still enrolling at Southport College to give potential students the chance to join the hundreds who have already secured their places. Students can drop in from 9am daily to apply and enrol on their range of courses. If you have missed your enrolment date or not applied for are course yet the advice is to visit Southport College as soon as possible to secure your place. Courses start on Monday 8 September so there is still enough time left to secure your place.

Adults can enrol on courses at Southport College from 9am daily with a dedicated enrolment day on Wednesday 3 September between 9am and 7pm. This year’s selection of courses is designed to give students the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects and includes courses to start new hobbies as well as courses which will provide you with professional qualifications and skills to improve your employment prospects.

Best of all If you’re aged 24 or older and are going to study on an eligible course at Level 3 or 4 you can now apply for a loan to help with the cost of your course. This is an ideal opportunity for people who have previously been unable to enrol on a course due to the upfront costs. And if the loan is for an Access to Higher Education course and you subsequently go on to complete a higher education course you don’t have to pay the loan back.

Southport College is also one of the few centres in the area offering Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved training courses which enhance the rewarding hobby of sailing.

Greg Gee, former RYA Essential Navigation student said “Although I have experience with small rented craft mainly on sea lochs in Scotland, I decided the time was right to buy my own. Before putting myself & my family at risk by just venturing out, I decided that I should add some theory to my practical knowledge. I opted to enrol on the RYA Essential Navigation course being held at Southport College with a view to eventually going on to a Day Skipper Course.

I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the whole of the course and all training objectives were met for the whole class. Since passing the course, I’ve purchased my own boat and have spent many a pleasant hour on it with my family. My training experience allied to my previous practical knowledge has made for a much more relaxed but safer experience for us all.
