UPDATE

Merseyside police has confirmed that the lady air lifted to Broadgreen hospital had suffered a heart attack at the wheel.
Police say they are optimistic about her recovery and she will be transferred back to southport hospital at some point in the next few days.

The emergency services were called to Scarisbrick New Road, Southport at around 3.30pm this afternoon following a report of a two car Collison near to Ash Street lights, Wednesday 30 March 2016.

The elderly woman driver of the Ford Focus involved was taken to Hospital. The extent of her injuries are not known at the present time but thought to be serious.

Two fire appliances from Southport attended the scene whilst police diverted traffic.

The woman was taken to hospital via helicopter which landed on Portland field.
