Sefton Labour Council Supports Southport

Despite vicious cuts to local funding by the previous Liberal Democrat and Conservative Government and the continued attacks from the current Conservative Government which has bled Sefton of 45% of it’s budget in real terms since 2011, Sefton Labour Council is fighting to maintain your services.

  • Investment in local schools
  • The investment into the Atkinson

  • Local Parks – The investment into Kings Gardens

  • The investment into Southport Market

    • Near to full capacity with traders including the Farmers Market.

    • Footfall has increased through the market.

  • The investment into town centre strategies to act as a springboard for investment approved by a labour controlled council

  • Investment into Meols Cop station from Labour controlled Merseytravel

  • The work done supporting businesses in Southport through Invest Sefton

  • Promoting Southport through investing.

    • Organising and supporting the Air Show therefore benefiting local businesses

    • Organising and supporting the Fireworks Show therefore benefiting local businesses

  • Recent success in the Coastal Community Bid

  • Splash World
  • Working with the 900 businesses through the Southport BID to grow the economy and jobs

  • Maintained cleansing, lighting services despite the cuts

  • Planning for our future generations through the local plan for housing, employment, jobs and skills through devolution

  • Community Resilience Fund and the fact we put money aside to assist communities through difficult times

  •  In relation to the 20 mile per hour zones Sefton Council are just about to complete the final phase of implementation of the 20mp zones across all residential roads in Southport.

 

Birkdale

  • The installation of lights in six trees, including power supply poles and electrical connection to the mains grid. (I am awaiting a final sign off from The Christmas Decorators who are updating some of the equipment) The cost of this project was £18,288

  • The refurbishment of the verandas in the Village centre. The cost of this project was £23,902.68

A total of £42,190.68 was granted to the New Birkdale traders from the CIPF.

The New Birkdale Traders also received £1,500 in 2014 and £1500 in 2015 as part of the Christmas funding support that the Neighbourhoods team delivered via the CIPF and the Community Transition fund.
