Sefton and Its Staff Scoop Top Tourism Awards 2014 May 29th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments Sefton Council and its staff have been recognised at the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards. The awards, held in Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, and organised by trade magazine Coach Monthly, recognises excellence and innovation across coach tour operators, tourist destinations and attractions, and industry suppliers. Southport came runner up in the Coach Friendly Destination of the Year category, narrowly being pipped by the Isle of Man. Editor of Coach Monthly, Stuart Render, said: “The Coach Tourism Awards is the only national awards scheme to focus specifically on the coach tourism community. “Sefton Council plays a key role in delivering a high quality of service to coach tour operators across the UK. “The resort of Southport was up against many of the leading names in the sector so this is therefore a well-deserved and a significant achievement.” In a separate accolade presented on the night, Sefton Council’s Travel Trade Marketing Officer, Julia Fahey, received the Coach Monthly ‘Special Award’. This was awarded in recognition of an outstanding contribution to coach tourism which Julia has been involved in for more than 15 years. Paying tribute to Julia, the judges said: “While working for Sefton Council she has ensured that Southport’s coach welcome is amongst the best in the UK. “The town was one of the first to be awarded the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK’s ‘Coach Friendly’ status. That led to Southport receiving several awards including the international IRU City Trophy and the UK’s most ‘Coach Friendly Local Authority’. “Her commitment to coach tourism makes her a very worthy recipient of this year’s Coach Monthly Special Award.” Julia Fahey, who has been at Sefton Council for 8 years, added: “I was shocked but also very proud to be recognised at the awards ceremony. “The coach trade in Southport plays an important part in the local economy and both the awards are testament to all our hard work in promoting the town.” The awards presentation was hosted by the editor of Coach Monthly magazine, Stuart Render, and ex EastEnders actress and television presenter Brooke Kinsella MBE. The evening’s entertainment was provided by West End actress and singer, Jodie Prenger. For details of all the winners and finalists go to www.ncta.co.uk.
