There will be as usual a magnificent range of real ales, ciders and perries organised by Pam Hadfield and Linda Harris, also a selection of fruit wines. There will be some nice dark and mild ales, bitters and premium bitters, and a special selection of stronger beers, The range of beers will include many local ales and some from further afield – details will appear shortly in the CAMRA Column in this publication. The Festival will open from 6 pm on Thursday, and from noon on the Friday and Saturday, with bars closing at 11 pm each day. CAMRA will be making awards to its best local pubs, licensees and staff on Thursday at 7.30 pm. Prior to this, two days of advance setting up the beers requires lots of help from CAMRA volunteers, who all work without payment at the Festival, under the watchful eye of Doug Macadam, the Beer Festival Branch Chairman and Festival Organiser, assisted by these many other members. On Saturday evening musical entertainment in the form of the excellent Omrskirk Ukulele Band will be part of the programme. We shall also be running raffles, selling books and products, and hopefully recruiting more members to join the CAMRA organisation. For non-CAMRA members it will cost £3 entry per person and free entry at all times for CAMRA members, but extra concessions will be given to those joining the famed real ale and pub protection group, now with over 160,000 members – “you know it makes sense!” Please give it a try and enjoy a choice of some really interesting beers!
