Rubbish Friends Beach Litter pick called off for safety reasons (Southport) February 15th, 2014 admin Latest News Shares Comments Rubbish Friends Beach Litter pick called off for safety reasons Over a dozen keen volunteers braved gale force winds and sideways rain to attend the ‘Rubbish Friends’ Litter Pick this morning. But organisers Councillors Sue McGuire and Pat Keith were advised by local Rangers that having teams of people on the beach with a high tide hitting the sea wall might be unsafe and could encourage other members of the public to go on the beach also.Accordingly, the event had to be cancelled. The core team hung around for a while to tell any ‘late-comers’ what was happening and picked up a few bits of rubbish from the sea front car park. Councillor Sue McGuire will re-arrange another beach litter-pick when weather conditions are hopefully, more favourable. They will be back!
