RESULT Southport 0  Chester 0

Southport entertained Chester at Haig Avenue on Boxing Day 2013 in the Skrill Premier.

Chester’s under-strength side dominated most of the game and mist most of the chances including one seconds before the final whistle.

Chris Almond went close for the Sandgrounders on 35 minutes.

Southport struggled to cope with Rooney’s accurate corners throughout the opening period and Lindfield should have done better on 40 minutes but his downward header bounced wide and that was the last real chance before the half time whistle sounded.

It was the Blues who continued to enjoy the great possession in the early stages of the second half Menagh beginning to influence proceedings.

With time almost up, George Miller sent Jamie Reed clear but the Chester-born forward flashed his shot high over the crossbar and into the sky.

Southport brought on David Fitzpatrick on 65 minutes and he almost made an immediate impact but Danby made a fine save from close range while Richard Brodie saw a header hit the back of the net before being rightly ruled out for offside.

Southport move two places above the relagation zone on 23 points

Final score Southport 0  Chester 0
