RESULT  Norton 2 Bootle 1

Norton ended Bootle’s seven game unbeaten league run –  after defeating the Bucks 2-1 on Saturday. Bootle manager Joe Doran made nine changes to his side and saw them take the lead in the 23rd minute. The un-marked James Riley headed home Grant Pruden’s corner.

However, the Bucks were soon pegged  back as Norton equalised four minutes later. Kyle Diskin found space inside the Bootle box, before unleashing a left footed half volley, which was superbly stopped by Bucks keeper and captain for the afternoon Dean Porter. However, the danger wasn’t cleared as Porter’s parry hit  on-rushing Bootle left-back Steven Hoy and rolled into the Bootle net.

Neither team created any clear-cut chances as the game fizzled out for the half time interval, with the score remaining  1-1.

The second half started as the first ended, with neither side creating any chances. That was until the 55th minute when Michael Young did superbly stopping Darren Chadwick’s goal bound header on the line. The Bucks best chance of the second half came when Jamie Hay was fouled 20 yards outside the Norton box. Grant Pruden’s free kick went just wide of the far corner.

Norton then had a glorious chance to win the game with five minutes remaining. Lee Cropper raced through on goal after Mark McDonald’s pass split the Bootle defence wide open, but Cropper could only shoot wide – when it looked easier to score.

However, five minutes later, and with one minute of normal time remaining Cropper made amends, and broke Bootle hearts. Tom Fogg’s long ball was controlled by Chris Baker, who played in Cropper, whose first time effort found the far the corner of the net and gave Norton all 3 points.
