Recycling Plastics and Cardboard collections to start February 11th, 2014 jmr jmr Latest News Latest Uncategorized Shares Comments Between March and May 2014 we are planning to introduce changes to our recycling and waste collections which will affect you. There are four main things you need to know: For the majority of residents we will deliver a brown wheelie bin for you to use for both plastic and cardboard recycling before the date of your first plastic and cardboard collection. Prior to the bin delivery you will receive a letter and a calendar detailing your recycling and waste collection dates. The brown bin will be collected on alternate weeks to your grey bin. Where there are access or storage issues, residents will receive re-usable woven sacks to use for both plastic and cardboard recycling. The Council we will be delivering a brown bin or woven sacks up to and including the Sunday before the first collection date. Other recycling and food waste Your weekly dry recyclable and food waste collection will not change. Please continue to use your green box and blue bag for all your other recyclables. Both your green box and food waste collection will continue on the same day as they are now. Changes to the green waste collection Your green waste collection will change to a Saturday or Monday from the same week as you receive your first plastic and cardboard collection. Your new collection day will be confirmed on the recycling and waste calendar that you will receive prior to the service day change. Up until this date your green waste collection will continue on the same day as it is now and alternate with your grey waste bin collection. The green waste collection service will continue to be provided free-of-charge on a fortnightly basis between February and November as the Council has agreed to defer introducing a charge for this service. Grey waste bin collections For the majority of residents your grey bin will continue to be collected on the same day as it is now. The grey bin collection will continue to alternate with the green waste collection until the first plastic and cardboard collection marked on the recycling and waste calendar. The grey bin collection will then alternate with the plastic and cardboard brown bin collection. Residents whose grey bin or sack collection is changing will be notified in advance of the change. Again the change will apply from the same week as the first plastic and cardboard collection. It is hoped the changes will help us to increase the amount of material that is recycled. Our recycling rate is currently 39% – one of the best on Merseyside. Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
