Readers capture stunning pink sky above Southport

Did you see colourful lights in the sky above Southport last night?

Matthew Rycraft captured this purple sky from kew, looking out towards Ormskirk.

The phenomenon appears to be an aurora, sometimes referred to as the northern lights.

It is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude, Arctic and Antarctic regions, but can occasionally be seen further south.

Other reads took some amazing photographs also, see below.

Our expert say:

Many meteorological marvels exist and some are rare. However, with modern photoshop techniques it is not hard to make a slightly interesting sky appear to be something spectacular out of an Arthurian fable.
