Merseyside Police today executed a warrant at an address in Southport town centre, Friday 21 August 2015.

Three unmarked police cars and a blue ford transit van that had been adapted with a platform devised by the elite fighting force turned up at the Wright Street address at 12.45pm today.

Wright street was closed to traffic as the officers stormed the building and then smashed the top window in order to disperse the smoke inside the flats.

Officers raided flats on three floors.

One passer-by, who lives locally, said: “I was walking down London Street and I heard several loud bangs before I realised what was going on.

“The police were masked and threw in smoke bombs.”

“They detained two males inside and one outside the flat.”
