Police step up patrols in town centre to combat youth crime

Extra police patrols will be in southport town centre tonight in an attempt to stop large groups of youths from gathering.

In a last ditch bid by Merseyside Police, a dispersal order has been applied to the town centre since Sunday – however it’s not done much to stop groups of youths gathering and causing issues.

Last night it’s believed a group of youths accidentally set off a burglar alarm at GAME on Chapel Street when a youth fell off his bike into the window of the store.

A Merseyside police spokesperson on twitter said there would be extra patrols tonight to compensate for the large groups
