Police make further arrests in Skelmersdale August 13th, 2013 admin Latest News Shares Comments Police make further arrests in Skelmersdale POLICE in Skelmersdale have made further arrests in the town as they continue their efforts to tackle crime and disorder linked to drug related criminality. Yesterday, Sunday 11th August, police executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address on Wheatacre. A search uncovered 18 bags containing cannabis bush hidden under the seat of a moped. Two men aged 17 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and have been released on police bail pending further enquires until 2nd October. On Saturday 10th August a further three warrants were carried out under the Misuse of Drugs Act and Theft Act in the Blakehall, Castlehey and Tawd Road areas. Officers also carried out foot patrols on Castlehey and Carfield and licensing visits at various public houses across Skelmersdale. On Friday 9th August a man was stopped by police on Willow Drive in Skelmersdale after he smelt heavily of cannabis. Officers searched the immediate area and recovered one large bag of cannabis. The 29 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and has been released on police bail pending further enquires until 11th September. Chief Inspector for West Lancashire Police Ian Whitehead said: “The on-going police activity continues to receive widespread support from the community as well as serving as a strong deterrent. “I’d reassurance people this is a long term, on-going operation to disrupt, tackle and prevent criminals from operating in Skelmersdale. “The information we have receive from members of the community is crucial so I’d urge anybody with any information that could assist the police to call us on 101, speak to a local officer or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” Last week, on Monday 5th August, a drugs warrant was conducted at an address on Carfield where a 54 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, theft of a motor vehicle and abstracting electricity. An 18 year old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis and theft of a pedal cycle. Both have been released on police bail until 3rd September. A search was conducted and officers located two suspected stolen mountain bikes and a small cannabis cultivation. Two cars were also recovered from outside the address. A third person, a 20 year old man from Skelmersdale was arrested at the address on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession of a prohibited weapon following an incident on Elmridge on 21st June. He has been released on police bail. Mark McHugh, 39, was arrested by officers on Elmridge as part of a stop check and was later charged with possession of an offensive weapon, in relation to the possession of a metal spike, and resisting arrest.
