Merseyside Police are appealing for information following an assault in Southport in the early hours, Sunday November 1.

At about 1.25am, officers were called to Esplanade, between Pleasureland and Dunes Leisure Centre, to a report that a man, aged 19, had a stab wound to his face.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The scene was sealed to allow for forensic investigations to take place and CCTV opportunities are being explored. House to house enquiries have also been carried out.

Esplanade remains cordoned off.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Rhodes said: “The area would have been busy with people celebrating Halloween last night and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed anything that might help our investigation to contact police.

“Any information, however small it may seem, could prove vital.”
