Police yesterday made a big step in combating the number of motorbikes stolen from the area.

It is now understood that the van contained two motorbikes, one being a specialised off-road grass track bike, which is black and green, was taken from outside a property on Redgate, Formby, in the early hours of Sunday 16 August.

The second motorbike was chipped with a tracking device which led officers to the to the Heathfield Road address.

A forensic examination of both bikes and the van have been carried out. Enquiries into the thefts are ongoing.

Inspector Jim Atherton said: “The purchasing of additional vehicle security will ideally prevent its theft and tracking equipment can lead to its swift recovery and offenders being brought to justice.”
