Police appeal following assault in Skelmersdale

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Skelmersdale.

The incident happened in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday, 26th August, at around 3:00am.

The victim, a 55 year old local man, had been out with his son and daughter in law, when he was approached on Birleywood by a group of men.

They have then assaulted him, using a wooden weapon leaving him needing hospital treatment for a broken nose and ribs. He was kept in Southport hospital for two days.

PC Adam Burke from Skelmersdale Police said, “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has information about it to come forward and contact the police.

“This is a serious assault and the victim needed to stay in hospital for two days to recover from his injuries. The people responsible need to be caught and brought to justice.”
