Plymouth Argyle Ground Hoppers

By Ross Chandley

On Saturday the 7th of January Burscough Football Club were delighted to welcome four Plymouth Argyle fans who had travelled to the Northwest for Sundays game versus Liverpool.

When possible the group try and ground hop wherever they can. They are also keen on the idea of supporting lower league and non-league teams and stressed the importance of doing so. “Being in the Northwest we could have easily decided to go to the Everton v Leicester game today, but we are about supporting clubs who don’t have the financial backing like the big clubs, they have enough money.”

They have slight preference in that they choose to visit a club who bare the same colour as their beloved Plymouth Argyle, today was the turn of Burscough.

It seems to be a rarity these days to come across people who share such a passion for football and in particular non-league football. Modern day football is dominated by the media and we are all subliminally subjected to it, be it through TV or social media.

The group had also done their homework in terms of Burscough football, it wasn’t a case of rocking up and watching a game, these guys know their football. Collectively the group have been ground hopping for over forty years and visited nearly all of the stadiums across the country.

There was also a distant link between the two clubs. Burscough’s very own club director Dave Sutton once had trials at Plymouth Argyle which were held at Victoria Park. Much to the delight of the Plymouth fans. Dave took time out to share a story with the group as he regaled the time he accidentally knocked out one of their main strikers some years back.  They were able to share a genuine link together with a passion for football.

Burscough were delighted to be able to play host to such visitors and the feeling was mutual. “As much as you’ve enjoyed having us, we’ve enjoyed being here and we have enjoyed our day. We are delighted that you got a much needed result.”

After their visit to Victoria Park the group travel to Liverpool prior to the game at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

All the staff at Burscough Football Club wish the group the best of luck on their future travels and hope they can continue to inspire more football fans to follow in their footsteps.
