A company by the name of Lightflask Ltd have submitted plans to demolish the former Sunshine House blind school on Oxford Road to build new homes in a Palladian style.

The site has been an eyesore and a number of residents of the West Birkdale area have complained about how it has just been left to rot with no real effort to renovate the site. The company intends to build 10 houses, three pairs of three-storey semi-detached houses, and two pairs of two-storey semi-detached homes fronting on to Palace Road and a four storey building including three executive apartments on the corner of Palace Road and Oxford Road. The houses will be build in a Palladian style keeping in theme with the area. The company was granted planning permission in 2012 but due to unforeseen circumstances the plans were not followed though and now the permission has expired. The site has been unoccupied since 2002 when the school was closed and has become a notorious spot for trespassing so the company and the local residents believe it will crack down in this problem as well as bring new life to the area.
