Planned road works in the North West – summary for Monday 11 July to Sunday 17 July 2016 July 8th, 2016 Connor_Henderson Latest News Shares Comments The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 8 July, and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible. M56 junction 7 eastbound exit slip road From Monday the slip road will be closed until November – see A556 Knutsford to Bowdon entry for further information. M6 junctions 16 to 19: Cheshire smart motorway Work is underway for the smart motorway upgrade – typically with 1 or 2 lanes closed overnight between junctions in both directions and/or mobile lane closures along short sections of carriageway. More information is available on the M6 junction 16 to 19 project website: www.highways.gov.uk/roads/road-projects/m6-junctions-16-19-smart-motorway/ M6 junction 26 Surfacing works shortly on the M6 southbound entry slip road at junction 26. Works are scheduled to take place on Thursday and Friday (14 and 15 July) between the hours of 8pm and 5am (7am at weekends). A temporary closure will be in place on M6 junction 26 southbound entry slip road during the dates and times stated above. Also a full closure of the M6 junction 26 southbound entry slip roads. Signed diversions will be in place. M6 junction 34 Lancaster Lancashire County Council work off the motorway on the Heysham Link project requires a lane 1 and hard shoulder closure in both directions on the motorway around junction 34. The work also includes occasional M6 carriageway and slip road closures detailed in weekly traffic bulletins available on the Lancashire County Council website: http://heyshamlink.lancashire.gov.uk/ M6 junctions 36 to 35 Burton Work is underway on the southbound carriageway for surfacing, drainage and barrier renewal works. There will be 24hr closure of lane 1 with closures of lanes 1 and 2 taking place overnight and a 50mph speed limit in place at all times. This work is due to be completed in early August. M6 Borrowbeck Viaduct (Junction 37 to Junction 38) We’re replacing the northbound carriageway bridge joints in 3 nights of work starting on Monday (11 July). All the work will be done overnight – between 10pm and 6am – with the motorway kept open at all times but with lane closures throughout the project and a 50mph speed limit in place past the road works. M6 junction 40 to 39 (Hackthorpe) We’re renewing road markings and reflective road studs on the southbound M6 from Monday (11 July) and this work is due to be completed by Monday 25 July There will be overnight – 8pm to 6am – lane closures while we do this work. A 50 mph speed limit will also be in place. M6 junction 44 to 43 (Carlisle) Overnight – 8pm to 6am – work until Monday 25 July involves resurfacing lane 1 of the southbound carriageway around junction 44 and also carrying out drainage repairs with hard shoulder, lane 1 and lane 2 closures. Lane 1 will continue to be closed during the day and a 50mph speed limit will also operate around the clock past the short section of road works. The southbound entry slip road at J44 will also be closed on the nights of 15, 18, 19 and 20 July, with diversions via J45. M60 junction 8 Sale to junction 20 Rochdale A major scheme is taking place to cut congestion and improve journey times on parts of the M60 and the M62 in Greater Manchester. The scheme involves overnight slip road and carriageway closures with a 50mph limit in place for the safety of workers and drivers. A significant programme of temporary night closures has been programmed to fit gantries with wiring and signs, which will take the project to May 2017. These are detailed on the journey impact tab of the project page and updated weekly, subject to weather conditions. M60 junction 22 to junction 24 Night closures on the clockwise carriageway, Monday to Friday from 20 June 9pm to 5am (7am Saturday mornings), for 7 weeks, for resurfacing. Signed diversions. M61 Rivington Services (between junctions 6 and 8) Overnight – 8pm to 5am – resurfacing of the entry slip roads and exit slip roads to the services on both sides of the motorway has been taking place. Access to the southbound services will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday nights – 12, 13 and 17 July. Access in and out of Rivington Motorway Services will not be available during the dates and times stated. A556 Knutsford to Bowdon A £192 million project is being carried out to create a new dual carriageway linking the M56 to the M6 in Cheshire. A temporary 40mph speed limit is currently in place between Bucklow Hill and Bowdon, and the new dual carriageway is expected to open in spring 2017. From Monday morning (11 July) the eastbound exit slip road at junction 7 of the M56 will be closed around the clock for around 4 months. Works will be carried out daily between 10pm and 5am, and will involve single closures on A56 and Rising Bridge roundabout. Some full carriageway closures will be needed, during which times fully signed diversion routes will be in place. Works are scheduled for completion at the end of July. A590 Greenodd Lane 1 of the eastbound carriageway just west of Greenodd roundabout is currently closed until further notice while we undertake a survey of the embankment. A590 Lindal-in-Furness Drainage installation works to alleviate flooding is due to be completed by the end of July. Temporary traffic signals will be used at various times, throughout the day or night, with on occasion, motorists being escorted through the works using a convoy system. A temporary mandatory 40mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works, with this being reduced to 10mph when the convoy system is used. A590 Dalton-in-Furness Wear and tear repairs to the roundabout at the junction of the A590 and A595 at Dalton-in-Furness in Cumbria will be taking place over 3 nights from Monday (11 July). All the work will take place between 8pm and 6am. Access through the roundabout from will be kept open using temporary traffic light except on Monday when Askam Road, south of the roundabout, will be closed with a signed diversion in place via Dalton roundabout further east. A66 West of Scales to Mungrisedale junction Resurfacing works will commence on 27 June and run until 22 July. Temporary traffic signals will be in place overnight with motorists being escorted through the works using a convoy system. A temporary mandatory 40mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works, with this being reduced to 10mph when the convoy system is used. A66 Brougham to Center Parcs Resurfacing works will run until mid-August. Temporary traffic signals will be in place primarily at night but at times during the day for certain stages of the work, with, on occasion, motorists being escorted through the works using a convoy system. A temporary mandatory 40mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works, with this being reduced to 10mph when the convoy system is used. A66 Braithwaite to Portinscale safety improvements Work to improve footpaths, cycle ways, road markings and traffic signs is due to be completed by mid-July. Temporary traffic lights will be in place but usually between 9am and 4pm – outside peak travel times – to help reduce inconvenience to road users, although they may remain in situ out with these times for safety reasons. A66 Embleton Work to reduce flood risk on a mile stretch of the A66 at Embleton began in January and is expected to be completed by the end of July. Temporary traffic lights operate 24 hours a day for the safety of crews and drivers. Full road closures in both directions will also be required on some nights between 8pm and 6am, and at some weekends. When the road is closed, diversions for HGVs and other vehicles will be clearly signed. Drivers are advised to use the A591 and the A595.
