A number of pedestrians suffered broken bones and fractures in Southport today (Friday 18th January 2013) after slipping on snow and ice.

The Northwest Ambulance Service were stretched to the limit after receiving a high volume of emergency calls relating to falls.

Pavements in the town centre were like ice rinks and pedestrians preferred to take their chances by walking on the road.
