Patients warned of disruption during industrial action
Patients are being warned to expect possible disruption to NHS services on Thursday (29th January) when health service unions and professional bodies plan industrial action.
The organisations’ members are in dispute with the Government over its decision not to award a 1% pay rise across the board as recommended by an independent national pay review body.
Members of Unison, Unite, GMB and the Royal College of Midwives have given notice of industrial action between 9am and 9pm. Action by the Society of Radiographers will be between 8am and 2pm.
Industrial action will also affect North West Ambulance Service and patient transport service will only operate for patients requiring dialysis and cancer treatment– usually at the Medical Day Unit at Southport and Formby District General Hospital.
The drop-in chest x-ray service at both Southport and Ormskirk hospitals will also be only available between 3pm and 4.30pm.
Angela Kelly, Interim Director of Nursing and Quality, said: “We will do everything we can to ensure patient safety and care is not affected by the planned industrial action. We are also working with union representatives to ensure that services which involve emergency and critical care are not affected.
“We will contact patients directly if their appointment needs to be postponed.
“If a patient is unable to attend for whatever reason, they should contact the Trust on 01695 656680 to make a new appointment.”
