Minimum Southport parking charge to increase to £1.50

From today, Monday 6th June 2016 Sefton Council has increase the cost to park in Southport, drivers will have to pay for a minimum of an hour (£1.50).

Sefton Council officials were today at the car park on The Promenade  covering up the price sign.

Sefton Council scrapped the half hour parking (70p) with drivers now having to pay a minimum 1 hour’s parking charge if they want to call into a shop.

Sefton Council hope that this will bring in an extra £547,000 from motorists this year.

Local resident George Carter said: “This is going to hit the small independent shops the hardest, free out of town parking at places such as Kew estate is much better – Sefton Council is turning the screw on Southport’s coffin”
