Southport was struck with a sand storm overnight (Wed/Thurs 28th June 2012). Local residents woke up this morning (Thursday) to find their vehicles, windows and other surfaces covered in tiny particals of sand and rain drops. The storms are produced by atmospheric low pressure cells

Contractors started demolishing Southport Community Fire Station main building today (Wednesday 27th June 2012). The Fire Station Crest and the fire pole are going to be donated to a museum by MF&RS at a later date. The crest crown was accidentally broken in half during demolition works.
