New Charity Shop official opening in Formby (near Southport)

26th January 2015

Support for Queenscourt in the heart of Formby

Queenscourt has finally fulfilled one of its goals, to open a charity shop in Formby.  The Formby community is very important to Queenscourt as this is where one of our first ever support groups was based.

The new shop which is located at 48 Brows Lane, Formby has been trading since 1st December, however our Patron Mark Lawrenson undertook the official ribbon cutting on Thursday 15th January.  Mark is known for playing Football for Liverpool and Preston North End and can also be seen regularly on television as a pundit on Match of the Day and Football Focus. The opening was a great success providing local supporters with the opportunity to take pictures of the star and enjoy the refreshments provided.

The rising costs of the Hospice present a constant challenge that needs to be met creatively every year. Increasing the number of retail outlets that we in have in our area provides an important source of regular income so our shops are vital to help fund the long term future of Queenscourt.

We are delighted to have this new shop in Formby and one of the aims is to raise awareness of the work of Queenscourt in the local community and to further strengthen the relationships with our Formby supporters.

The Formby shop receives new stock on a daily basis as we receive a wide variety of donated items so we are able to offer something to cater for everyone’s tastes. The manager of the Formby store is Rita Gill, who has previously managed a number of our Retail outlets. She is excited to take on the new shop and wants to continue to offer unique items and special pieces providing great value for money. The shop not only offers a ladies section, but also children’s and gents clothing, books, furniture and bric a brac.

The new team of volunteers Formby are very dedicated and committed however we are always in need of more people to support Queenscourt. It is a great way to support your community, so if you can spare a few hours a week to help with a variety of jobs from sorting and pricing merchandise to showing your creativity and making seasonal displays.
