Picture above: students planning their interviews The digital newsroom activity was hosted by Dragon’s Den survivor Naomi Timperley and gave students a ten minute window to quiz business figures about their industry experiences and ask them about techniques for securing jobs. The resulting Twitter interactions caused Southport College to trend in the Manchester region and gain a huge amount of exposure on the Social Media channel. Students found out what makes a good CV, how to conduct themselves at an interview, what skills and attitudes employers value and what it is like to own your own business. In addition, the College’s Student Services department held drop in sessions for CV writing, job search advice and offered access to the College’s interactive careers advice services. Amanda Nelson, Head of Student Services at Southport College said “Careers advice plays a huge part in what we do at Southport College. Our courses give students the skills they need to succeed in work but it’s important not to forget about the skills needed to find a career, to build an attractive CV and to be a successful interviewee. We saw a huge number of students during the week and will continue to provide our careers advice throughout the year to help our students find work when they finish their courses with us.” Submit News Contact us with your community, business or sport news.
