Monday’s Marvellous Mawdesley Car and Bike Show

Report by Steve Kirton on behalf of W.L.MG.O.C

Today bank holiday Monday (30 May) started the car show season for West Lancs MG Owners Club.  And where better to start than on your own doorstep at the first Mawdesley Classic Car and Motorbike show organised by Mawdesley Cricket Club and held on the cricket club grounds just off the high street.

Way back in Autumn last year we were asked for a little advice on how to organise the event as W.L.MG.O.C are no strangers to running events having ran a good few shows not too many years back at Scarisbrick Hall and also at the Scarisbrick village hall.

So as this was a local event we thought we would show our support and also our cars by bringing 13 cars and 19 members to this brand new event being held at the cricket club.

Our cars gathered were 3 MGF’s,1 MGTF,3 Midgets,2 MG-GT’s,1 TC,1 TD,1 MGA Coupe and also a MGC.

In all 79 cars and 15 motorcycles entered the show on a beautiful sunny day the weather could not have been more perfect topping 22 celsius that’s (72 fahrenheit in old money) and i am sure was a relief to the organisers of the event because as you know our bank holidays are not always guaranteed sunny! But today was glorious sunshine with just a little cloud.

car3-ots-newsThe cars where judged by categories four in all (pre 1950’s,1960’s,1970’s and 1980’s onwards)
And the winners were????

Non other than our own Ralph Greenhalgh for the pre 1950’s with his stunning MG TC.

1970’s Jaguar E Type.
1980’s Onwards Fiat 126.
And the winner of the motorcycles was a 1927 Ariel.
With the public vote for Car Of The Show going to the fantastic Ferrari Dino.

W.L.MG.O.C would like to thank Mawdesley Cricket Club especially Rob Hales and Martin Trengrove and there team for all there hard work organising this event and only hope it becomes a regular fixture on the show calendar.

Also, we would like to remind anyone who lives in West Lancs or surrounding areas with a classic car and would like to join us having social nights out going to car shows and events and just generally having a bit of fun while raising money for deserving charity’s we meet at Briars Hall Lathom on the third Thursday of every month at 8pm – or click here www.westlancsmg.co.uk and check out our Facebook page West Lancs MG Owners.
