Metro Mayor candidate Rotheram lauds work of Southport Soup Kitchen

During his time in the town Steve Rotheram visited the Soup Kitchen, run by volunteers and local churches for more than 15 years, to discuss the increasingly important issues of homelessness and rough sleeping that affect Southport and the wider Liverpool City Region. He said: “Tackling rough sleeping and providing people with the support they need is one of my top priorities if I am elected in May.

“It was lovely to visit Southport Soup Kitchen. They’ve seen a dramatic increase in homelessness in the area, working with people dealing with very complex needs.

“I also joined local Labour Party members at Southport hospital, which faces cuts in services as part of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan for Cheshire and Merseyside, before a door knocking session in Kew.

“It would be a privilege to serve as the first Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region and I will ensure that no borough or town like Southport is left behind as we face the challenges of a hard Conservative Brexit from the EU.”
